From Lost to Found: The Journey of
Tomas Miguel

My name is Tomas Miguel, and I am from Mexico. I came to the United States when I was 16, dreaming of a better life for myself and my family. We were a large family of nine, and I wanted to support them and become a better person. However, life in the U.S. took a difficult turn.
With no guidance and too much freedom, I fell into heavy drinking, losing my way and my purpose.
I had always enjoyed cutting hair, starting at 13, but it was just for fun, not a dream. I would cut my neighbors’ and relatives’ hair. When I moved to the U.S., I continued this habit, working at a restaurant by day and cutting hair to buy alcohol at night. By the time I was 20, I was completely lost in alcohol addiction, working long hours just to survive, and feeling aimless and alone.

In 2013, everything changed. A friend named Nate from a local church kept inviting me to play soccer with him. I refused countless times, more interested in drinking and partying. But he never gave up. Finally, one Saturday, I reluctantly agreed. Hungover and out of shape, I played for only a few minutes before I had to sit out. A man approached me and started speaking in Spanish. He shared the gospel with me, telling me how lost I was and how I was heading down a destructive path.

It was the first time someone confronted me so directly, and it struck a chord deep within me. That day, something changed inside me. I decided to turn my life around and follow God. I quit drinking, something I hadn’t thought possible, and found a new sense of purpose. My life began to transform.

I went back to what I loved—cutting hair. I enrolled in a barber course and started cutting hair wherever I could: at dorms, gyms, people’s homes, even in garages. I realized that I could use this skill to connect with people, just like Nate had connected with me. I wanted to share the gospel through my work as a barber.

In 2020, during the pandemic, when most barbers were struggling, I felt called to make a leap of faith. I left my restaurant job and started my own barbershop. It was the best decision I ever made. God provided for me, and I gained clients from all over the world—people from India, Brazil, Argentina, and beyond. I saw how God was using my barbershop to reach people from every walk of life.

Today, I’m not just a barber. I’m someone who listens to people’s stories and shares God’s story with them. I know that real freedom and purpose come from God alone. I want others to know that too. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from; we all need to hear the gospel.

Being a barber is more than a job for me—it’s a calling. I love cutting hair, but I love people even more. I want to make a difference in their lives, just as that man did for me on the soccer field. That’s my mission: to bring people closer to God, one haircut at a time.
